Mattress by Appointment is unlike a normal retail store, in that there isn't set store hours – I meet people at my location, when it’s convenient, for both of us. Technically, I’m open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. By saying that, I mean that I understand the average person today is busy with work, child rearing, running errands, going to activities or other appointments, that it can be hard to stop by a store during normal retail hours. I believe most people are like me – I don’t actually have time to myself until 7:00 pm or later during the week and my weekends are usually filled with completing tasks I wasn’t able to get to throughout the week.
By allowing customers to schedule times to meet me at my store, it allows individuals to purchase a mattress at their own pace, and it keeps my overhead low, which allows me to offer discounted pricing. I can meet customers at 8:00 a.m. or 8:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. or whatever time is convenient on any day that is convenient, including Sundays. The customer service experienced while in my store also differs from the big box retail stores. My customers do not experience the normal pressure from a ‘salesman’ trying to push them to make a purchase. My business model is to introduce myself, briefly learn what the customer is looking for (size, style, for whom), show them what my options for them are, and then encourage the customer(s) to test out the beds while I sit back at my desk and leave them in peace to explore and try out the options. I truly want my customers to leave with a bed that is comfortable for them, and most importantly one that they can afford – not one that they have to finance for 5 years, like competitors advertise.
