Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is pleased to bring back the widely acclaimed folk music and dance duo Atwater~Donnelly in concert at the Historic Ritz Theatre on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 7:30 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre.
The husband and wife duo of Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly create beautiful harmonies of traditional American and Celtic folk music on an astounding array of instruments including the mountain dulcimer, old-time banjo, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, limberjacks, feet and more. They have something for everyone, mixing in dance tunes, old-time gospel songs, and original pieces alongside traditional American and Celtic folk music. They also perform Appalachian clog dancing and French Canadian footwork.
Atwater~Donnelly met as volunteers at a nonprofit arts foundation in Providence, Rhode Island in 1987 and formed their duo musical act soon afterward. They have been married since 1989 and have performed and researched traditional folk music and dance in Ireland, England, Prince Edward Island, and many notable places in the United States, including Appalachia, New England and the Ozarks. Their music receives international airplay on such notable broadcasts as National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.”
This is a unique and not to be missed evening of American and Celtic folk music and dance! Advance tickets for Golden Isles Arts & Humanities members are $10 and $15 for nonmembers. Day of show tickets for members are $15 and $20 for nonmembers. The cost for students (with ID) is always $5 each.
